The second stage of this years Summercamp was held at the Honbu over the weekend. Building upon the principles and concepts covered during the first Camp, particular emphasis was placed upon integrating internal and external personal training to better manage/cope with "self-protection in daily life". To this end it MUST be remembered that correct preparation (which is what training is really about) MUST always include ALL components of the agression spectrum ie. EMOTIONAL, VERBAL and PHYSICAL and the "rehearsal" of these at REALITY range!
At the conclusion of the Camp and after copius amounts of the
proverbial "Blood, Sweat and Tears" so beloved of the participants...
the following students were awarded their Shodan by Lafond Sensei
Mrs. Minna Leppälä
Miss Piia Veikkanen
Mr. Jaakko Kalliosalo
Mr. Joonas Pekkinen
our congratulations and best wishes to them all!
In addition, 4th kyu (blue belt) was awarded to Miss Tanja Kivikko, who as usual demonstrated great spirit and commitment!
A word here again to thank all of the Yudansha, Sensei's Mika, Tapio, Mira, Tuomas, Henri and Miika, who freely give their time and energy to help the students with their personal development.
It is Lafond Sensei's wish that all students carry the spirit and enthusiasm demonstrated at the Camp back to their own Dojo, which as he often says "is wherever one is" and use this as a stimulus to further progress.
A happy summar to all!
Kaj Lafond.

Onneksi olkoon molemmille!
Lisäksi haluaisin Kobukanin, Kenbukanin ja Seikadon puolesta kiittää Sensei Lafondia jälleen yhdestä työntäyteisestä vuodesta. Domo Arigato Gozaimashita vuodesta 2007, Sensei.
Toivotan kaikille hyvää tulevaa vuotta 2008! Treenatkaa ahkerasti ja olkaa varovaisia missä ikinä liikuttekin.

There is an ebb and flow to nature's rhythm that is universal and affects all life.
This is essential for survival. Only human society ignores (or attempts to ignore) this with the result that we subjugate our bio-rhythm to clocks, artificial light and a work/living environment designed to "free" us from natures influence (interference)! This has now been worsened by the fact we have to deal with, work with and in a sense "live" in cyberspace!!! Small wonder that although people are living longer the ills of modern society both physical and mental are manifesting themselves more and more with all age groups!
As we cannot do much to change the world/society we live in, please take time out to tune in to the natural world around us...
Self-protection skills must incorporate this aspect, remember whenever you perform your meditation, go thru your Qi gong, Tai ji, Kata etc., you are in a time and space of your own creating, please maximize the benefit of this!!!!
We must TAKE the time each day to recognize and connect with our own bio-rhythm(s) and that of the natural world around us.

The first stage of the camp was held at the Budokan in Jalasjärvi under the direction of Tapio Sensei. Training concentrated on the principles of Tenshi Happo Taisabaki. Theme Kata for the training was Shinpa.
Evening training was held at the Honbu in Kaskinen, covering various aspects relating to the analysis of Kata movements at varying ranges of confrontation. The seizing and control methods within Kanshiwa Kata were also taught in detail with the integral energy transfer methods.
The evenings training was concluded with the awarding of Kokusai Butokukai International Dan Certificates to senior instructors:
Sensei Mika Tepponen 5.Dan KBI, KBI-Finland
Sensei Tapio Korhonen 5.Dan KBI, KBI-Finland
Sensei Mira Koskenkorva 3.Dan, KBI-Finland
Sensei Tuomas Seilo 2.Dan, KBI-Finland
Uchi Deshi Kaj Lafond, Certificate of Achievement KBI-Finland
In addition to the above, in recognition of technical and teaching ability Sensei Mika Tepponen and Sensei Tapio Korhonen were presented with the Renshi teaching licence of the KBI.
Certificates were presented by the Honorary Chairman and Technical Adviser to KBI-Finland Sensei Andre Lafond 7.Dan, Kyoshi. KBI.
Our sincere congratulations and thanks to these instructors for their achievements and the hard work and effort they have invested in assisting all the members.
Following on from the Summer Camp - students are requested to concentrate on incorporating Total Body Movement both in their Kata and Bunkai movements. Shinpa Kata must be performed with the original concepts in mind and avoid "linear" mindset in order to validate the close quarter combat nature of the applications.
Summer festivities notwithstanding it is expected that all students maintain their training programs.
Our good friend Sensei Katherine Loukopoulos has returned to Europe. She now has a website at http://www.bubishi.nl where students can keep up with her hectic schedule. Our best wishes to her.

Opettajieni pyytäessä minua edustamaan heitä pidin sitä kunniatehtävänä, ja
mikä tärkeämpää, velvollisuutena antaa opetusta tavalla, joka saisi heidän
hyväksyntänsä.
Vyökokeissa on aina teknisten taitojen lisäksi arvioitu Budon sisäistämistä
oppilaan jokapäiväisessä elämässä - "Budo elämäntapana" , kuten O'Sensei Kim
opetti.
Yllä olevaan viitaten minulla on ilo ilmoittaa seuraavista
Kokusai-Butokukain päätöksistä:
Taidoista ja luonteenlaadusta:
Sensei Mika Tepponen, Godan, (5.Dan)
Sensei Tapio Korhonen, Godan-ho, (5.Dan)
Sensei Mira Koskenkorva, Sandan-ho, (3.Dan)
Sensei Tuomas Seilo, Nidan-ho, (2.Dan)

The purpose of group training at the Honbu Dojo is to evaluate and assess
group and individual progress levels.
Following upon this, specific training guides are prepared for each group
and individual to emphasize in their own practice.
Follow up seminars arranged under the senior instructors are an essential
part of this process, and all students are strongly urged to participate
in these to ensure continuing progress.

Kokusai Butokukai -International held their traditional European Summer Camp in Heidelburg Germany at the beginning of August. Sensei Tapio Korhonen and Sensei Mira Koskenkorva represented the Renmei at this years camp. Always a time to meet up with old friends and exchange training tips, this year I felt it was particularly important to attend, as the Kokusai Butokukai had decided to award the honoured title of Hanshi to three of O'Sensei Kims's most senior students.
Sensei Robert "Bob" Leong was O'Sensei's "right hand man". A gifted and talented martial artist in his own right, Sensei Leong was a well liked and respected teacher and friend to many. He was also a national and international champion in competition. I remember his advice and encouragement with gratitude and would like to offer him our respects and best wishes.
Sensei Jean Chalamon. Well known for his excellent technical standard and teaching ability, Sensei Chalamon remained loyal to O'Sensei throughout the somewhat turbulent Butokukai history in France. Kokusai Butokukai-Europe is fortunate to have him continue his efforts to preserve and promote O'Sensei's legacy.
Sensei Rod Sanford. I know Sensei Sanford only by reputation. A long time
student of O'Sensei's, he remains fiercely loyal and has devoted himself to
preserving and promoting O'Sensei's memory.
Our congratulations and best wishes to these fine instructors.
